Emil was born in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1985, and is currently residing in Helsinki. His studies took place at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen with Niklas Sivelöv, and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Erik T. Tawaststjerna and Eero Heinonen. Additionally, he has attended numerous master-classes with the legendary Finnish piano guru Liisa Pohjola - as well as with other famous pianists such as Olli Mustonen and Leon Fleisher.
He received his early training at the Gradus School of Piano Playing in Aarhus with the renowned piano pedagogue Martin Lysholm Jepsen.
He has been rewarded at numerous national and international piano competitions. At the age of look there 15 he won the first prize at the Hamburg Steinway Klavierwettbewerb. Most recently he won the first prize at the Ilmari Hannikainen Piano Competition in Jyväskylä in March 2010 as well as the first prize at the Nordic Piano Competition in Nyborg, Denmark, in June 2010.
Emil Jensen played his first solo recital at the age of 15, and has since then performed extensively throughout Scandinavia and Eastern and Central Europe. He appeared for the first time as a soloist with orchestra at the age of 16, performing the remedies Beethoven 3rd Piano Concerto with Aarhus Symphony Orchestra under David Riddle.
