WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT A BLÜTHNER GRAND PIANO
A heavy construction is one of the principal features of a fine instrument.
Blüthner produces the rim of the grands from as many as 18 different
layers of red beech compressed and glued together in a special mold.
Its stability is further ensured by using strong wooden bracings made
of pine on the outside and red beech in the middle. This layer takes
up the bolts that secure the iron frame to the back thus ensuring
a firm fit under all climatic conditions.
 The
Aliquot System is a unique feature in Blüthner grands. A fourth
string is added to the trichords in the treble, which is not struck
by the hammer but vibrates sympathetically. The Aliquot strings pick
up the overtones that are thus reinforced and they add special color
to the treble.
Each string has its own hitchpin. Thus, when breaking a string, two
strings are left and the instrument can continue to be played without
detriment.
The curve of the soundboard is formed like a barrel with the bridge
sitting on the crest. This imparts higher elasticity. So being softer
it can reinforce the deeper overtones which stand for the darker velvety
tone character.
 The
hammer shanks are individually tuned to assure equality in sound making
the wooden clicking of the hammers in the treble less audible.
The action meets the highest demands placed on it. It is also important that sensitive key balancing is performed to exacting specifications that ensure ease of repetition and control.
Blüthner reserves the right to change specifications
without notice.

Table of Dimensions and Weights
Model: Height / Width / Depth / Weight
I: 46" / 58" / 25" / 195 kg
A: 48" / 59" / 25" / 225 kg
B: 52" / 59" / 25" / 250 kg
Blüthner Upright Pianos are made as carefully as the grands,
with the following features:
• A strong construction with five or four back-posts that pick up
the tension of the strings, assisting the iron frame to withstand
the enormous pull of approximately 18 tons. Thus a durable tuning
of the instruments is assured.
• The soundboard has a maximum surface and only finest spruce is
used for its construction. The bridges made of re beech are designed
to transport the vibrations of the strings without loss to the soundboard.
• The two larger models are fitted throughout with agraffes as well
as with individually hitched strings which results in a high accuracy
of the position of the strings. The small upright is made with a
capodastro bar that fixes the strings against the iron frame.
• The two larger models differ from the smaller one in the design
of the case work. They are more elaborate, with a traditional curved
fallboard, consoles, ornate edges with profiles and an optional
top door inlay.
• The smaller model is of more functional design, that fits well
into any interior, putting instrument before furniture.
• Action and keyboard are of high quality. Their construction is
concentrated on elegant touch and high performance, giving the professional
an instrument of high perfection.
• Care is taken to select the hammershanks according to their tone
height to even out the striking noise in the treble. Also the direction
of the grain is observed to avoid warping.
• All instruments are fitted with three pedals, the middle pedal
allowing one to play full force at a very low noise level. These
instruments stand for excellence and high grade workmanship.
